About Policy in the Wild

 I'm Dr. Eva Chiang, the lead faculty and director for the online Master of Public Policy program at Southern Methodist University (SMU). In my role, I oversee curriculum design and delivery, as well as student onboarding and support. My passion lies in connecting academic insights with real world policy applications. I also consult on policy and program evaluation and strategy. 

I created Policy in the Wild to support my students and anyone interested in the field of public policy. This platform is designed to:

• Bring Policy to Life: Explore how policies shape our everyday lives by spotting and understanding them in the "wild," much like observing wildlife in its natural habitat.
• Support Graduate Success: Offer tips, tricks, and resources for succeeding in graduate school—from time management and study strategies to networking advice.
• Foster a Community: Connect students, professionals, and enthusiasts who share an interest in public policy and its practical implications.

With a deep commitment to education and policy, my career has spanned roles as an educator, administrator, and researcher. Prior to my current position at SMU, I served as the Managing Director of Leadership and Programming at the George W. Bush Institute. There, I led efforts to measure the impact of domestic and international programs and conducted research to inform policy and practice. I also led leadership programs.

• Ph.D. in Education from SMU
• J.D. from Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law)
• M.A.T. from the Texas Women's University
• B.A. in Professional Writing from Baylor University
